The short version: Veil is built so your meeting data never leaves your device. Audio, transcripts, and original text stay on your machine. Only pseudonymised text (with real names and values replaced by fictional substitutes) is sent for AI processing. We cannot access your meetings, even if we wanted to.
Veil is a product of KarmaFoundry ("we", "us", "our"). Veil is a desktop application for macOS and Windows that provides meeting recording, transcription, and AI-powered summaries. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our software and website at helloveil.com.
The following data is created and stored exclusively on your computer. It is never transmitted to us or any third party:

Before any text leaves your device for AI processing, Veil's on-device privacy pipeline ("VeilPhantom") does the following:

The anonymous device ID used by PostHog is generated locally and is not linked to your identity, email address, or any meeting content. You can opt out of in-app analytics at any time in Veil's Settings.
Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), who acts as the Merchant of Record. When you subscribe:

Meeting data (audio, transcripts, summaries) is stored on your device indefinitely until you delete it. We do not retain any copies of your meeting content. Anonymous analytics events are retained by PostHog in accordance with their standard retention policy. Billing records are retained by Paddle as required by law.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit. All communication between the Veil app and our proxy server uses HTTPS. On-device data security is the responsibility of your operating system. We recommend keeping your operating system and Veil up to date.
Veil is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the Software or on the website. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
